PÖllÖ & Buho - Pack of 4 Blank Cards

While going on a spring cleaning adventure I found in the archives some PÖllÖ & Buho blank cards I had produced when Andy and I had made our little animation a few years back. Sometimes I think I hoard way too much so have decided to put 9 limited edition postcard packs (which includes the 4 seen in the above image) up on my Etsy store.

The animation was very much an experiment but if your interested in watching here it is. It was exhibited along with the characters as part of a group exhibition curated by Mim Kelly called Refab at CraftACT.

NWNP Closing

(Installation shot of NWNP as you enter the gallery space)

I have cheekily stolen my post from over at Needle Work Needle Play but I basically wanted to say the same thing!

Well after months of planning we packed up Needle Work Needle Play in about an hour last Thursday! Thanks to everyone who came and saw the show, wrote about it and supported us. For those who couldn't make it to Melbourne I have included a selection of photo's from the exhibition so you can see what it looked like however there are many more to be found here on Flickr.

Once again all images are copyright of the artists and please if you want to use any of the images be sure to credit it back to the artist. Photography done by Andrew Altree-Williams.

Needle Work Needle Play - Group Exhibition on Contemporary Embroidery

Well it has been months in the making but I am finally days out from the opening of the group show I've been organising Needle Work Needle Play! It has been alot of hard work but fantastic meeting so many awesome artists and would like to say a big thanks to them for participating in the show and putting up with all the annoying emails I sent them.

I might also make a few special mention thanks to Emma Greenwood for coming up with the awesome show title, MaricorMaricar for designing and stitching the title and Evie Barrow from Handmade Romance for designing our digital invite.

We have had some great press in the lead up to the show including articles on Yenmang.net and the Frankie Blog. I have also been doing an artist feature series over at our blog so to find out more about all the artists involved click here.

Lastly, here is a little sneak preview of the work I have made for the show - I am so happy to have finally finished it! The show will be opening Friday 10th August, 6pm at the Brunswick Street Gallery.

Graphis Gallery - Sydney

(Be Still My Trembling Heart)

I was recently contacted by the lovely Tegan of Graphis Art and Framing in Sydney and the last 4 works from my show have been consigned to their gallery space. I included images of the works that have headed up to Sydney and if you are interested in any of them please feel free to contact Graphis Gallery!

Things have been very busy preparing for the group show Needle Work Needle Play in August - I have already re-started my piece for the show 3 times after various stuff ups! Note to all using air erasable pens on felt - don't iron over the image or you will burn it into your fabric!!!!

(yet another scarf attempt for
Audrey)
I have been completely re-inspired to learn knitting yet again (I always give it up after winter and forget) especially after visiting Pauline at her Pop- Up shop Pop Craft. It is full of the most stunning, bright yarns and beautiful knitting books among other things.  Well worth a visit if you are over on Lygon Street!

The blue yarn pictured above was bought from Pop Craft last year - being the slow knitter I am I have pulled it out again this year!

April Book Inspiration - Just Kids by Patti Smith

I have just finished reading Just Kids by Patti Smith and it was the most amazing book I have read in ages. I couldn't stop crying in the end one because it was so sad and two because the book was over and now I don't have it around to escape into every day!

It's look at artistic and musical life in New York City in the 60's and 70's was fascinating as well as the story of Patti Smith and Robert Mapplethorpe's friendship. I can't recommend it enough - so inspiring!

Elizabeth Process Shots

As mentioned AGES ago - here are some process images from one of the works from my solo show 'Elizabeth'. It was very much one of my earlier portrait experiments and have learnt alot with this piece so am excited to take some of the ideas further in future work. Looking back on these images makes me realise how many little changes happen along the way while trying to put the image together and it's always so far from what I initially imagine.

Hope everyone had a lovely Easter!

Interview with Dell Stewart

It's been a while since I've done an interview over at The Creative Haven so it was awesome that Dell Stewart wanted to have a chat to us about her stop-motion animation work. Dell is currently doing a residency at Harvest Workroom and the animation that she has been working on there will be showing in the window at Harvest Workroom while she is there.

Please pop over to have a read if your interested to find out more about Dell's animation work.

What to do with those projects that just don't work out

Oh I cringe looking at this first attempt at the Panda image - I was wondering and wondering what to do with it then voilà! Solution presented itself.

What Inspired Me - 16th March 2012

(More city shadowscapes around the house)

I've decided to start a post about what inspired me during week as I often see amazing works and idea's through reading blogs and in other places but tend to forget about them. So here is a record for me to remember and also maybe you might find something inspiring to!

What inspired me this week:

  1. The incidental shadow cityscapes I keep finding around the house. The one above was made by a pile of LP's
  2.  Emily Green's wedding here
  3. Catherine Campbell's embroidery sampler here
  4. Dawn Tan's ArtPlay work shop here
  5. Discovering Misako Mimoko's blog here
  6. "Dead and Gone" by the black keys here - Audrey's favourite song at the moment!

Press: Mr X Stitch Blog

Big thanks to Jamie (aka Mr X Stitch) from the Mr X Stitch Contemporary Embroidery and Needlework Blog for his lovely post about my recent work under The Cutting and Stitching edge section. I love this blog so it was a huge honour to be included and I also recently bought Jamie's book Push Stitchery (Picked up in Cooma of all places) which I am hoping to include under my Art Book Inspiration section sometime soon!

Hand Embroidered Bedding

Something I have been meaning to share for a while (2 years) is this hand embroidered pillowcase and sheet set my good friend Katherine designed and had made when she was travelling in India. She gave it to Andy and I as a wedding gift which was AMAZING!

I might just add that I never normally iron sheets and didn't change my ways for this photo shoot but you get the idea!
